Queen Camilla and the royal divide over spicy food

Date:

Queen Camilla has shared insights into her personal food preferences, revealing tastes that contrast sharply with those of other senior royals. Speaking in an interview with You magazine, she reflected on early dining experiences in the 1960s and outlined the simple dishes she enjoys most, including baked beans on toast and freshly cooked fish and chips.

She also made clear which foods she avoids, noting a strong dislike for peppers, whether raw or cooked, as well as offal, with the exception of high-quality liver. In addition, she steers clear of chilli and garlic, placing her firmly at odds with more adventurous palates within the royal family.

By contrast, the Princess of Wales has repeatedly spoken about her fondness for spicy cuisine. During engagements linked to overseas visits, she has openly expressed enthusiasm for Indian food and other richly spiced dishes, even joking that her husband, the Prince of Wales, finds such flavours more challenging.

The Princess has also said that her enjoyment of spice is reflected at home, where she adapts meals to suit different family members. While her children are given milder portions, she prefers her own food hotter, suggesting that differing attitudes to spice remain a light-hearted but notable point of contrast within the royal household.
