A woman from East Anglia has been diagnosed with gigantomastia, a rare medical condition that causes excessive and rapid breast growth, after noticing unusual changes while using a GLP-1 medication. The diagnosis was confirmed in July following significant weight loss accompanied by continued breast enlargement.

The patient, aged 30, had experienced a larger bust since puberty, but sought medical advice after her breast size increased despite overall weight reduction. Her doctor initially considered macromastia before concluding that the symptoms were consistent with gigantomastia, a condition that has been documented in only a few hundred cases worldwide.
Medical experts note that gigantomastia can be associated with hormonal changes, genetic factors or autoimmune conditions. In this case, the patient reported that her breasts account for roughly one fifth of her body weight, leading to physical discomfort, including shoulder strain, numbness in the arms and difficulty resting flat.

While breast reduction surgery is often considered as a treatment, it does not always prevent recurrence. The woman has said she is weighing her options and adapting to the condition, noting both the physical challenges and the social attention it attracts, while continuing to seek ways to manage its impact on her daily life.
