Mark Labbett has addressed viewer complaints about a tactic he frequently uses on ITV’s The Chase, following discussion on social media. The quizzer, known as “The Beast”, has been part of the programme since its launch in 2009 and recently secured a narrow victory in the Final Chase with just seconds remaining.

Speaking after the episode, Labbett rejected claims that Chasers are unfairly allowed to interrupt contestants. He stated that contestants are permitted to answer whenever they wish, provided they are confident enough to do so. According to Labbett, early interruptions are a strategic necessity rather than an unfair advantage.
His comments suggest that the approach is unlikely to change in future episodes. The tactic may also feature in the newly announced spin-off series, The Chase Around the World, which was revealed last month by ITV.

The new format will see host Bradley Walsh and the full team of Chasers travelling internationally, as pairs of contestants attempt to locate them using puzzles and clues. The final team to succeed will then face a Chaser head-to-head to remain in the competition, marking a significant departure from the traditional studio-based format.
