Corey Feldman reflects on shock over Rob Reiner case

Date:

Corey Feldman has claimed he was “actually the first one” to suspect that director Rob Reiner had allegedly been killed by his own son. Reiner, 78, and his wife Michele, 70, were found dead at their Los Angeles home on Sunday, with their 32-year-old son Nick later charged with two counts of first-degree murder.

Speaking on the ABC News special The Rob Reiner Story: A Hollywood Tragedy, Feldman said he immediately connected Nick to the events as they unfolded. He described the situation as deeply disturbing, adding that the idea the deaths could have occurred inside Reiner’s home, allegedly at the hands of his son, sent “shivers and chills” through those who knew him.

Feldman, who starred in Reiner’s 1986 film Stand By Me as a child actor, also addressed Nick’s reported struggles with drug addiction. Drawing on his own experiences, he said growing up around addiction can make it easier to recognise and process such issues within families, while a lack of understanding often makes empathy more difficult.

Recalling his reaction to the news, Feldman said he initially found it impossible to believe that such a tragedy could have happened to his friend. Nick was arrested on Sunday night and has since been charged with first-degree murder, alongside a special allegation that a knife was used as a dangerous and deadly weapon.
