According to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, President Vladimir Putin’s foreign policy adviser, Yuri Ushakov, spoke by telephone with several officials from President Donald Trump’s administration. The timing of the calls was not disclosed. Peskov said that Kirill Dmitriev, a presidential envoy, had returned to Moscow with paper copies of the US proposals after meetings in Miami over the weekend. The documents are now being examined by the Kremlin.
“The information was analysed, and on behalf of President Putin, contact took place between representatives of the Russian and US administrations,” Peskov said. “It was agreed to continue the dialogue.” He declined to comment on the substance of the proposals, stressing that public remarks could jeopardise the negotiating process.

Meanwhile, the Russian newspaper Kommersant reported that President Putin had told a group of leading Russian business figures that he might consider exchanging some territory currently held by Russian forces in Ukraine, while insisting on full control of the Donbas region. Asked about the report, Peskov said that Ukraine-related peace talks had been discussed only in general terms at the meeting, without offering further details.
