Ryder will play a new character, Tabitha, marking another collaboration with Burton following previous projects including Beetlejuice and Edward Scissorhands. Burton said the actor was a natural fit for the series and described her as a long-time collaborator with whom he always enjoys working. The show’s creators also said Ryder was the obvious choice for the role, citing her long-standing association with Burton’s distinctive cinematic style.

The actor first rose to prominence in Burton’s 1988 film Beetlejuice, and their professional partnership has continued over several decades. Most recently, they worked together on Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, released in 2024, which also starred Ortega as Ryder’s on-screen daughter. Producers said Ryder’s addition would strengthen the world of Wednesday, particularly its focus on characters with supernatural or unusual traits.
