Trump comments on JD Vance being booed at Milan Winter Olympics

Date:

US President Donald Trump has reacted to reports that Vice President JD Vance was booed during the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics in Milan. Footage from the event showed Vance and his wife, Usha, receiving an audible negative response from sections of the crowd, which was noted by international broadcasters covering the ceremony.

When questioned about the incident later the same day while travelling on Air Force One, Trump appeared unaware of the reports. He expressed surprise at the suggestion, stating that he had not seen the footage and implying that such a reaction was unexpected given Vance’s profile.

Trump went on to suggest that the reaction could be explained by the fact that the vice president was abroad. He added that, in his view, Vance does not face similar treatment at public events within the United States, framing the response as a matter of being in a foreign country.

However, public records and previous media coverage indicate that Vance has been booed on several occasions in the US. These include appearances at a firefighters’ union conference in Boston, encounters with protesters in Vermont, and public events in Washington, DC, where he was met with heckling and negative crowd reactions.
