Gordon Ramsay expands Cornwall property holdings amid local tensions

Date:

Gordon Ramsay has reportedly purchased a second home on the same street in the Cornish village of Rock, despite long-running tensions with neighbours. The television chef first bought a £4.4 million property in the coastal area in 2015, later replacing it with a modern glass-and-wood house following the demolition of a 1920s mansion. The redevelopment attracted criticism from local residents, some of whom objected strongly to its design.

According to reports, Ramsay and his wife Tana have now acquired another property around a dozen doors away for £9.65 million, a figure said to be the highest ever paid for a home in Cornwall. The four-bedroom 19th-century house was reportedly purchased through a newly formed company, Rocky Bay Estates, with Land Registry records indicating the use of a mortgage from the private bank Coutts. The couple are also understood to have bought the neighbouring two-acre plot of land.

Relations between the Ramsays and some local residents have previously been strained, particularly during the Covid lockdowns, when the family stayed at their Rock property for extended periods. Complaints were raised by some locals about second-home owners in the area, with criticism circulating on social media. Ramsay has since attracted attention for comments made in a radio interview about Cornwall, as well as for featuring the property in a Netflix documentary highlighting the area’s outdoor lifestyle.

The Cornwall purchases form part of a wider property portfolio built up over several years. In 2022, the Ramsays sold another Rock property, Daymer Bay House, for £7.5 million, then a county record. They also sold Trevail House, a Grade II-listed former bank in Fowey, in 2020 for an undisclosed sum, continuing a pattern of high-value transactions in the region.
