NVIDIA has rolled out an update to its DLSS 4.5 suite, bringing new features designed to boost frame rates on RTX 50 series graphics cards. The update includes DLSS 4.5 Dynamic Multi Frame Generation and DLSS 4.5 Multi Frame Generation 6X, promising enhanced performance for high-refresh 4K OLED displays at 240Hz, or 1080p and 1440p monitors at 360Hz and beyond. The company has described the improvements as offering “the smoothest path-traced gaming yet.”

The Dynamic Multi Frame Generation feature operates like an “automatic transmission” for RTX 50 series cards, adjusting frame rates dynamically to balance refresh rate, image quality and responsiveness. It also ensures that frame rates do not exceed the monitor’s native refresh rate, preventing unnecessarily high output on lower-refresh displays. Meanwhile, Multi Frame Generation 6X leverages NVIDIA’s second-generation transformer model to generate up to five interpolated frames per natively rendered frame, enhancing 4K performance by up to 35 per cent with minimal impact on responsiveness.
These features, similar to the Super Resolution update, do not increase a game’s native frame rate. Instead, the AI system predicts intermediate frames to fill the gaps between rendered frames. While this generally improves smoothness, it can occasionally produce visual artefacts in scenes with fine details such as rain, hair or wires. Despite this, the technology allows for smoother gameplay while imposing only a minimal additional load on the GPU.

The DLSS 4.5 features are now available on NVIDIA RTX 50 series cards, with support in a number of titles already announced. These include 007 First Light (May 27th), CONTROL Resonant, Directive 8020 (May 12th) and Tides of Annihilation. NVIDIA anticipates that further games will adopt the MFG technology in the near future, enhancing high-refresh gaming experiences across multiple resolutions and genres.
