Former England international Stuart Pearce has described Marc Guehi as the most important player for England ahead of the upcoming international tournament. The defender, who joined Manchester City in January from Crystal Palace, has already earned 26 caps and has featured under England manager Thomas Tuchel, although he missed recent victories over Serbia and Albania due to an ankle injury.

Pearce praised Guehi’s ability to read the game, highlighting how the defender manages one-on-one situations and anticipates opposition attacks. He pointed to recent Premier League matches where Manchester City were exposed to quick counter-attacks, noting that Guehi’s awareness and positioning helped him manage dangerous situations effectively. According to Pearce, these qualities make him a crucial presence in defence.
The former full-back also suggested Guehi could influence Manchester City’s title challenge this season. City remain in contention in the Premier League, sitting several points behind leaders Arsenal with a game in hand. Pearce acknowledged that City have occasionally looked vulnerable defensively but believes the arrival of Guehi, alongside other additions such as Antoine Semenyo, has strengthened the squad.

England manager Thomas Tuchel has also spoken positively about Guehi’s contribution to the national team. Tuchel praised the defender’s attitude and team spirit during the recent international camp. England are scheduled to play friendly matches against Uruguay and Japan in March before facing Costa Rica in June, ahead of a World Cup group stage that includes Croatia, Ghana and Panama.
