Coronation Street reveals attacker in Bernie Winter-Alahan stalker storyline

Date:

The long-running ITV soap Coronation Street has revealed the person responsible for the attack on Bernie Winter-Alahan’s stalker, Mal Roper. The development emerged during a dramatic episode in which Bernie initially appeared to be the main suspect following her recent confrontations with the man who had been harassing her.

During a police interview with DC Browning, Bernie explained that she first encountered Mal several weeks earlier when he invited her to his room at the Chariot Square Hotel. She stated that he had continued to harass her since that meeting, which gave investigators a possible motive for the assault. Despite the pressure during questioning, Bernie firmly denied using violence against him.

Elsewhere in the episode, Bernie’s son Kit Green privately revealed that he had confronted Mal in an attempt to protect his mother. He told his partner Sarah Platt that he had pushed the man and warned him to stay away, but insisted he had not physically assaulted him. Kit also suggested that Mal’s subsequent heart attack may have occurred regardless of their confrontation.

Although Bernie was later released without charge, the situation left Kit in a difficult position. Concerned that admitting the truth could jeopardise his career in the police, he decided to remain silent. However, colleague Lisa Swain’s determination to investigate the incident further suggests the storyline may continue to develop in future episodes.
