Daniel Craig’s Defiance arrives on BBC iPlayer

Date:

Daniel Craig may have been best known as James Bond in 2008, but his work beyond the 007 franchise continued to attract attention. His performance in Edward Zwick’s war drama Defiance was widely praised, even though the film itself received mixed critical reviews on release.

The film has now been added to BBC iPlayer following its broadcast on BBC Two and will be available to stream for the next 29 days. It is also currently accessible on Prime Video, although it is due to leave that platform within the next fortnight.

Defiance tells the true story of the Bielski brothers, portrayed by Craig, Jamie Bell, Liev Schreiber and George MacKay, who helped rescue and organise Jewish refugees in Belarus during the Second World War. On its release, The Times described the film as “haunting, impressive and moving”, while the Daily Mail called it a gripping and thoughtfully made drama.

Speculation continues over who will succeed Craig as James Bond, with no official announcement yet made. It is confirmed, however, that future Bond films will take a different direction following Amazon MGM Studios’ acquisition of creative control, marking a significant shift for the long-running franchise.
