Charli XCX has spoken about feeling exposed while portraying the emotional extremes of pop stardom in her new mockumentary The Moment. The film marks her most substantial acting role to date and features a fictionalised version of the singer during a tour linked to the success of her album Brat.
Although the narrative is imagined, the project draws heavily on real experiences of life as a chart-topping artist. The film explores the volatility of fame, highlighting the sharp contrast between moments of confidence and periods of self-doubt that can accompany a career in popular music.
The project was developed with close collaborator Aidan Zamiri, who co-wrote and directed the film based on Charli XCX’s original concept. He has described the work as an honest reflection on achieving long-held ambitions while recognising how fragile and temporary success in the industry can feel.
